Mamdikaya Kandi Pappu (Mango and toor dal)

1 green mango – peeled and cut into small pieces
1 cup toor dal
½ tsp turmeric

Garnish:
2 small red chilies
½ tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp fenugreek seeds
½ tsp cumin seeds
Pinch of asafetida
1 sprig curry leaves
2 Green chilies
½ tsp red chili powder

Salt to taste

Dry roast toor dal lightly until slight aroma comes off – optional.
Cook toor dal and turmeric 2 cups of water till it is soft.
Heat 1 Tsp oil. When the oil is hot, add the spices in the following order, 10-15 seconds apart:
Fenugreek seeds
Mustard seeds
cumin seeds
red chilies
asafetida
curry leaves

Add green chilies, mango pieces and red pepper. Let them cook.
Add cooked dal, cook for another 5-10 minutes in low heat..
